Obituary:
Paul was born on December 27, 1941, in Shreveport, Louisiana to Travis M. & Beatrice W. Smith. He grew up in Cuero, Texas. Paul graduated from Texas A & I University with degrees in physics and math, and then served in the Vietnam War as a B-52 Navigator. In 1965, Paul married his best friend Alice, and they were blessed with two loving and precious daughters, Holly and Amy. Paul retired from Texas Instruments after 31 years of service. He also served as a deacon at Bacon Heights Baptist Church. Paul was always faithful—whether serving his country, his family or our Heavenly Father. He was a devoted son, a loving husband, a caring dad, a gentle PawPaw, a loyal friend, and a godly man. Paul enjoyed spending time with family and friends, woodworking, barbecuing, watching basketball games, and taking family vacations. Paul was a quiet, kind-hearted man, who was true to his word. He was humble, fun-loving, quick-witted and wise. Despite a 6-year struggle with Lewy Body Disease and a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, Paul fought courageously and displayed great faith. He was a powerful example to all of how to “fight the fight, finish the course, and keep the faith.” Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Alice; his daughter Holly Duncan and husband Todd of Lubbock; his daughter Amy Shoop and husband Nick of Allen; his grandchildren, Ashton & Ethan Duncan and Hudson Shoop and baby Shoop on the way; his brother, Bruce Smith and wife Ginny of Papillion, NE and their children Kristy and Bruce Jr.; and a dear uncle, Bazil Green of Olive Branch, MS.
