Obituary:
Wendell was born on Aug. 9, 1931 in Ropesville to the late Jackson Henry and Ruby Lee (Stephenson) Gailey. After graduation from Lubbock High School, Wendell served in the US Air Force from 1951-1955. He married Patty Knox on Oct. 4, 1952 in Lubbock. After discharge from the military he began a contracting company, Knox, Gailey, Meador General Contractors until 2001 when he sold the business. After he retired Wendell helped his son-in-law, David with his business, David Wood Construction. Wendell was a member of the Association of General Contractors (AGC) and the First Church of the Nazerene. In his spare time, Wendell enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing and sports. However, the first love of his life was whatever his grandchildren were involved in from basketball to dance recitals. Along with his parents Wendell is preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Jerry Gailey. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Patty; two daughters, Lesa Wood and husband David of Lubbock and Lori Gilbertson and husband Mark of Arlington; son, Mike Loyd and wife Kathy of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two grandsons, Justin and Jordan Wood of Lubbock; three granddaughters, Bryce Gilbertson of Arlington, Regean Held and husband Buck of Edmond, Okla. and Paige Loyd of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two great grandchildren, Halston and Hudson Held of Edmond, Okla.; a brother, Larry Gailey and wife Janice and two sisters-in-law, Glenda and Doris Gailey all of Lubbock.
