Obituary:
Aldena was born August 30, 1917, in Kaufman County, Texas, and was Salutatorian of her 1934 graduating class at Alvord High School in Alvord, Texas. Aldena graduated from Draughns Business College in Wichita Falls, and attended Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth. She married William Estle Ward on March 20, 1938, in Wichita Falls. William and Aldena spent more than 30 years working in the ministry at Baptist churches in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and California. Aldena was Executive Assistant to the Superintendent of Coastline Regional Occupational Programs in Southern California for about 18 years. She taught Sunday school for more than 60 years and was a member of First Baptist Church in Irvine, Calif., for 35 years and Monterey Baptist Church in Lubbock for 7 years. Aldena enjoyed crocheting, sewing, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. She also was a talented chalk artist. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, in July 1975; her parents, Virgil and Beulah Girdley; a brother, Ed Girdley; and a sister, Betty Ann Girdley. She is survived by a sister, Virginia McCrary of Burkburnett; four daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Martin Boyd of Lubbock, Janette and Pat Murphy of Albuquerque, N.M., Iris and Talmadge Shermer of Brownsboro, and Melody and Curtis Seidlits of Austin; nine grandchildren, Shannon Boyd of Newbury Park, Calif., Ryan Boyd of Lubbock, Lara Adams and Kevin Murphy, both of Albuquerque, Alan Lewis and Brian Lewis, both of Houston, Stephanie Seidlits and Lee Seidlits, both of Austin, and Sarah Wollitz of Dallas; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials:
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Monterey Baptist Church Building Fund.
