Betty was born October 27th, 1946 in Gladewater, Texas to Reverend B. T. and Velma Shoemake. She attended school in Winters, Texas and married Jim Johnson of Winters on February 26th, 1965. Through a series of corporate moves she and Jim lived in Austin, Plano, Lubbock, and Houston as well as New Orleans, LA, Memphis, TN, and Montgomery, AL; but Lubbock was home.
Betty loved to travel, she loved to play tennis, she loved all sports, and she loved her friends and family. She was a beloved wife to Jim for 45 years, a mother to three sons, a role model for her daughter in laws, a real grandmother to her nine grandchildren, and a true friend to her friends.
She is survived by her husband, Jim; son Jim, Jr. and wife Kara; son John and wife Cindy; son, Jeff and wife Tiffany; and grandchildren Courtney, Bradley, Brittany, Madison, Ashley, Amber, John Hayden, Justin, and Austin.
