Bob was born January 12, 1921 in Alliance, Ohio to Adolph Wilhelm and Vera Pabst Brueggestrass. He was graduated from East St. Louis High School, IL and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving as a bomber pilot in both World War II and the Korean Conflict and achieving the rank of Captain. His distinguished military career earned several commendations including three Distinguished Flying Crosses and seven Air Medals. After earning aeronautical and general engineering degrees, Bob worked 35 years for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in both St Louis and Houston, and also completed an MBA. Following his retirement, Bob completed training to become a paramedic and volunteered for over 20 years with the Cyprus Creek EMS in Houston TX, culminating in his receipt of the John Helper Award for Outstanding Emergency Medical Service. Bob also served as an elder in the Presbyterian Church in both Cherry Point NC, and E. St. Louis IL. After moving to Lubbock, Bob, again, volunteered with Meals on Wheels for over 4 years until failing health prevented his continued service.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Lorraine Kincaid Brueggestrass of Lubbock; his children, Patricia Hales and her husband, Dr. Duncan Hales of Sussex, UK and Dr. Jane Bagley and her husband, Scott, of Dimmitt; two grandchildren, Alicia Hales and Tell Bagley. He is also survived by his siblings, Margaret Sigler of Belleville, IL, Erna Rogier and her husband, David of Belleville, and Paul Brueggestrass and his wife, Mary Beth of Brentwood MO.
