Obituary:
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather has gone to be with his eternal Father in Heaven. William F. (Bill) deTournillon was born in Columbus, Ohio and moved to Alexandria, Louisiana at a young age. It was there that he met Virginia (Ginger) Louise Dinnat who would become his wife, partner and best friend. Bill proudly served his country in the Navy, and after discharge he attended Northeast Louisiana University. He married Ginger in 1951 and their marriage spanned almost 59 years. Together they had three daughters, Denise deTournillon Cypert, Donna deTournillon Stauffer, and DeJon deTournillon Bates along with one son William F. deTournillon Jr. His extraordinary career in radio and television spanned over 35 years. Bill started in radio and quickly moved to into the burgeoning field of television. Because of his vision for television, he became a very sought after start up, and turn around, expert. This led him to the General Manager position of television stations in Monroe LA., El Dorado AK., Jonesboro AK., and Abilene TX. In 1969 he moved his family to Lubbock and became the General Manager of KLBK television and radio. Like so many, he fell in love with Lubbock and this became home. He built KLBK television and radio into one of the most successful broadcasting organizations in the country. Bill’s love for Texas Tech and the Lubbock area culminated with his induction into the Texas Tech Mass Communications hall of fame in 2008. In addition to their four children, Bill and Ginger were blessed with ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and one ornery little Yorkie named Willie. Bill was active in the Catholic Church his entire life and was a member of Christ the King. Bill was preceded in death by his 2 sisters, his brother, and one grandson Dennis Thomas deTournillon.
