Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers will host a gathering of family and friends to honor the life of the Rev. Kenneth T. Metzger on Thursday, March 11, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 12, 2010 in the City of Lubbock Cemetery with the Rev. Eddie Allsup officiating. A Memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2010 at LakeRidge United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Couch, Rev. Ernie McGaughey and Bishop Max Whitfield officiating. After a long and faith-filled battle with PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy), Ken Metzger went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 9, 2010.
Ken was born August 29, 1935 in Farmington, NM to the late Verlin and Ione Metzger. Ken married Sue Ann Peyton on Jan. 23, 1959. He received a BA from McMurry College in 1959 and an MDiv from Perkins School of Theology at SMU in 1962. Ken dedicated his life to God's work and served as an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church for over 45 years. He served churches in Fargo, Quitaque, Plainview, Dalhart, Vega, Post, Memphis, Stratford, Brownfield, Pampa, Clarendon & Muleshoe. He also served as District Superintendent in both the Abilene and Lubbock Districts of the United Methodist Church.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 51 years, Sue; son, Rev. Mark Metzger and wife Karen of Perryton, TX; daughter, Marci Nix and husband Robert of Farmington, NM; four grandchildren, Ashley and Bailey Nix and Benjamin and Hannah Metzger as well as several cousins.
The family would like to express special thanks to the staffs of Vista Care Hospice and South Haven Assisted Living for the excellent love and care they extended to Ken.
