Dale was born October 3, 1934 in Weinert County, Texas to Hazel and the late Jimmie Schwartz. He attended school in Weinert and Plainview, Texas and graduated from Plainview High School in 1952. Upon graduation from high school, Dale served in the US Army at Fort Bliss, TX for several years and also served in the 36th Infantry Division with the Texas National Guard while attending college at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas. On June 5, 1960 he was united in marriage to Gerry Schwartz of Rogers, New Mexico. He met Gerry while they attended Wayland Baptist University in Plainview. Mr. Schwartz graduated from Wayland Baptist University in 1960, moved to Austin, TX with his wife and started a family. Dale served as a Boy Scouts of America executive and Order of the Arrow advisor in Texas for several years, but eventually settled with his new family in Clovis, NM and resided there until 2001 when he and Gerry relocated to Lubbock, TX. During their time in Clovis, Dale taught school in Texico, NM where he taught for 25 years. He also earned his Masters of Education degree from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM. His wife, Gerry, was a teacher and administrator in the Clovis Municipal School system for many years. They both have many friends in both Clovis and Lubbock.
Dale was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clovis, NM for over 35 years and a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Lubbock, TX for the last 8 years. Dale was a long time Sunday school teacher and spent countless hours volunteering for the church in both Clovis and Lubbock. He spent several years growing a vegetable garden at Aldersgate in Lubbock and passed out vegetables to anyone who needed them. He also volunteered his time for various charity projects including Meals on Wheels. Dale was also a lifetime member of the National Education Association and actively participated in NEA for many years.
Dale is survived by his wife Gerry Schwartz, his mother, Hazel Schwartz, two children, son, Colonel Michael Schwartz of Santa Fe, NM, and Mike’s wife Evelyn Schwartz, his daughter, Lee Ann Schwartz, Austin, TX and three grandchildren Kylie Bensley and her husband Rodney Bensley of Boston, MA, Nathan Tate and his wife Kim Tate of Rio Rancho, NM, and Harlan LaFollette of Seattle, WA and three great grandchildren, Tristan, Dylan, and Jordan Tate. He is further survived by his sisters Frances Keeter and Mary Sue Swanner, and her husband Jackie Swanner and other family members to include nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father Jimmie Schwartz of Plainview, TX, his brother Jimmie Schwartz Jr. of Colorado Springs, CO, and his brother-in-law, Wayne Keeter of Hereford, TX.
