Obituary:
Bess Elaine Ayers Costanzo passed from this life on November 9, 2009 at the age of 88. She was born on February 22, 1921 in Central Texas near the community of Kosse. She spent her early years in Kosse, and then moved with her family to Memphis, Texas, where she graduated from Memphis High School in 1939. In July, 1944, Bess was married to her husband of 65 years, Alfred Costanzo in Memphis, Texas. Together they had 3 children—Karen, Nancy and Charles. Prior to moving to Lubbock in 1955, her family also resided in Plainview and Lorenzo, Texas. Throughout her years in Lubbock, Bess was a very loving and caring mother, always putting the needs of others above her own. Her hospitality and compassion were demonstrated the many times she offered meals and the use of her home to extended family, college students, and others in need. Because of the devoted life she lived, her family is confident that the Lord has lovingly welcomed her into His kingdom with these words-“Inasmuch as you have ministered to the least of my brethren, you have done it unto me. Enter now into my eternal kingdom”. Bess is survived by her husband, Alfred Costanzo of Lubbock; daughter Karen Hollon and husband, Michael of Plano, Texas; daughter Nancy Shawell and husband, Randall of Houston, Texas; and son Charles Costanzo and wife, Linda of Ft. Worth, Texas; grandchildren Amy Davis and husband, John of Ft. Worth, Texas; Jason Costanzo of Austin, Texas; and Carrie Loper and husband, Lesley of Aledo, Texas; great-granddaughter, Meredith Davis of Ft. Worth, Texas; brother Richard Ayers and wife, Doris of Borger, Texas; brother Harold Ayers of Lubbock, Texas; and sister Hazel Cook and husband, James of Lubbock, Texas. The family also wishes to express our special gratitude to Mary Gonzalez, who provided such loving care and companionship to our wife and mother in her later years.
