Jerry was born on May 31, 1934 to the late Robert and Mae Zachary. He graduated from Ropes High School in 1953. He distinguished himself by receiving an athletic scholarship to Texas Tech where he played football for two years. He married the love of his life Oma Lois Chitwood on July 27, 1958. He and Oma lived in San Angelo where Jerry worked as a highway patrol. After living in San Angelo for nine years, they moved to Canutillo, Texas and Jerry began his career as a Texas Border Patrol. The couple moved to Amarillo and along with his job as a Border Patrol, Jerry worked for the Amarillo Marshall’s Department. He served as a Border Patrol for over 20 years. After his retirement, Jerry and Oma moved to Wolfforth to be near family and friends.
Those left to cherish Jerry’s memories are his devoted wife of 51 years, Oma; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Chitwood of Lubbock and Mary Jane York and husband Cleo of Tulare, Calf.; eight nephews and nieces along with other family and dear friends.
