Mary Ann (Elizabeth) (Jones) Gestes was born to Billie Ruth (Bennie) and John Henry Jones at home in Smyer, Texas, Feb. 3, 1947. The family then moved to Lorenzo where Mary Ann began her education and graduated from Lorenzo ISD. She married her high school sweetheart, Jackie Gestes, on March 28, 1965. Mary Ann was a stay-at-home mom only working as a teacher’s substitute or with Jan Pair’s preschool until she became a full-time teacher’s aide. She worked with Lorenzo ISD for 12 years. Children were her passion. She believed that to succeed every child needed love, encouragement, to be believed in and a hug every day. She also worked at McLane Foods and was an Advisor for Texas Department of Human Services where she worked in Lubbock, Crosbyton, and Lorenzo for over 11 years. She enjoyed crafts, her yard, and was an avid reader. Mary Ann’s love was in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who was also her best friend. She was a member of Lorenzo First Baptist Church, a member of Sunday School and volunteered in the library. Her husband and family came next. Mary Ann or “Mamo” loved every moment she had with them. She is survived by her husband, three sons, Jackie II of Lorenzo, Tommy and wife, Shelly of Hereford, Rodney and wife, Julie of McKinney, 9 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter; two brothers Wilburn (Wil) and wife, Charlotte of Lubbock, Wendell (Shorty) and wife, Linda of St. Lawrence; two sisters Penny McLaughlin of Longview and Helen (Lolly) Jennings and husband, Bobby Joe Jennings of Lubbock. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Lena Brunson, two brothers, John I. Jones and William A. (Bill) Jones.
