“Our greatest hope is to create a sanctuary where grieving families can gather to find peace in a meaningful ceremony of remembrance,” explained Santos Moreno, general manager of Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. “Every inch of our new facility was built with the intention of providing a peaceful, respectful, and supportive haven for families during their time of need. By creating a new facility we were able to consider the entire process and how best we could provide a facility for families who are facing such a difficult time in their lives.”

Although the funeral home is new, Santos has been serving area families by helping celebrate the lives of lost loved ones for the past 16 years. His funeral service began in 1989 upon graduating from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Services. He began an apprenticeship at Guajardo Funeral Chapels and finished the experience at Rix Funeral Directors and Franklin Bartley Funeral Home. It was at Rix Funeral Directors where Santos had the privilege of learning the business from Whitney Rix Victory, owner and operator of the funeral home from May of 1990 through February of 2006. Bob Bartley was another funeral director that served as a mentor during Santos’ tenure with the company.

Santos served community families through Rix Funeral Directors and Franklin Bartley Funeral Home as a licensed funeral director and embalmer. In 1996, he was appointed assistant general manager. During his service at Rix, Santos received an Associates of Applied Science in Business Management Degree from Wayland Baptist College. Santos is currently licensed to practice the art of embalming and funeral directing. He is also a licensed agent in life, property, and casualty insurance in the state of Texas.

“We believe a large part of the meaning in a funeral service is to help survivors create a tribute to the life that was lived in a way that is unique to their needs and their loved one’s life,” said Santos. “By doing this the family can take the first step in the grief process and start their grief journey in a positive way. I’m not saying that dealing with the death of a loved one is ever easy, but we will do all we can to make it easier on the family by providing them with as many options as possible in order to help them create the true tribute that echoes the life their loved one lived.”

Santos takes this mission very seriously. This is reflected in the funeral home’s name, Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. “We chose to include Memorial Designers in the name of the funeral home because that is a very large part of our service here,” explained Santos. “Our Memorial Designers are trained in all aspects of funeral and memorial service. They are always available to help families understand the choices they have and to help facilitate and coordinate a service the family will find meaningful and healing.”

At first glance of the building, it is obvious that Santos has spent extra effort to make the exterior of the facility reflect the compassion and tranquility provided within. The curved facade extends to visitors as a much-needed embrace and quietly invites them in. The copper colored roof and circular rose window reflect the calming tones of the interior with a respectful elegance. The building seems to radiate warmth and comfort.

Just as each funeral should be unique, Lake Ridge Chapel has been uniquely designed to encompass the needs of Lubbock families and provide them with extra choices to enable them to create a unique memorial.

Inside, the funeral home is wrapped around an elegant courtyard. The courtyard has been designed to provide family and friends with a special spot to stop for a breath of fresh air, take a moment of quiet prayer and reflection, or hold a respectful service of remembrance.

In fact, the courtyard features a designated area for services including full audio capability. Families may choose to hold garden services, sunrise or sunset services, or other memorials in these distinctive surroundings.

The courtyard also offers visitors ample room to relax among the greenery, flowers, and fresh air. A fountain placed in the area adds to the calming affect of nature by creating a soothing background.

The interior of the funeral home contains remembrance rooms, the chapel, business offices and other spaces necessary to care for all the family’s needs. The funeral home keeps a comforting tone with soothing colors and decor.

The funeral home is also the only funeral home on the southwest side that has its own crematory and witnessing room as part of the funeral home building. This means families who choose cremation are assured their loved one never leaves the care of Lake Ridge professionals. In addition, with a witnessing room coordinating with the soothing decor found in the rest of the funeral home, families are provided with a special place to experience closure similar to the families who would travel to the cemetery for a ground burial. This closure is an important part of the grieving process.

“Our experience and expertise will help families find unique ways to memorialize their loved ones while discovering meaning and comfort in the process,” explained Santos. “We are dedicated to the future of funeral service.”

This dedication is expressed in the extra touches found inside Lake Ridge Chapel. The chapel, which can accommodate a large group of family, friends, and neighbors beneath its gracefully vaulted ceiling, has complete video, audio, and lighting capability to meet the needs of any family’s wishes.

The two large remembrance rooms have these capabilities as well, even when subdivided into four smaller viewing rooms. This allows families to play memorial videos and special songs as a tribute to their loved one’s life. Plus, with this technology, Lake Ridge Chapel will be prepared to keep up with any future trends facing the funeral industry. The funeral home’s Memorial Designers encourage families to make full use of this equipment in order to personalize their services.

Another unique attribute of the funeral home is the plasma screens in each remembrance room and corridor. These can be utilized to display remembrance videos or clips from favorite vacations during memorial services. When no services are taking place, the screens will be used to help inform families about unique and meaningful services available at Lake Ridge Chapel. For example, the funeral home may show examples of butterfly or balloon releases, a very touching ceremony that families may be unaware of.

“At Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers we seek to provide a meaningful celebration of life for every family we serve,” said Santos. “Our memorial designers and staff embrace the importance, individuality and the richness of each person’s life.”

Santos and his wife Hillery, daughter of Scott and Lorrie Hart, have two children, a daughter named Alyssa and a son named Brennan. Hillery serves the community through her care as a Registered Nurse at University Medical Center. The Moreno family is a members of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Santos is also a member of multiple professional organizations including the National Funeral Director Association, the Texas Funeral Director Association, and the Cremation Association of North America.

At Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, the compassionate staff respects each family’s preferences, beliefs, wishes, and resources. They will be available 24-hours-a-day to help you work through arrangements for the loss of a family member, assist with preplanning, or provide a beautiful setting to honor loved ones.
